POSITION TITLE: PEER RESEARCHER (LIVED EXPERIENCE OF DIRECT
PROVISION/INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION PROCESS)

This position is on an independent contractor basis. The contract will

Nasc Ireland is an independent human rights organisation and a
registered charity based in Cork City Nasc, the Irish word for
?link?, empowers migrants to realise and fulfil their rights. Nasc
works with migrants and refugees to advocate and lead for change
within Ireland?s immigration and protection systems, to ensure
fairness, access to justice and the protection of human rights. Our
goal is to realise the rights of all migrants and refugees within
Irish society.

ABOUT THE RESEARCH PROJECT

Nasc secured funding through the Irish Human Rights and Equality
Commission?s Human Rights and Equality Grant Scheme **Apply on the
website** for a project entitled _Ending Direct Provision? One Year
On_. As part if this we are delivering a report on the implementation
of the White Paper on Ending Direct Provision.

The project, _Ending Direct Provision? One Year On_ will combine an
evidence-based score card with qualitative research by a peer
researcher. Essentially the project will aim to answer the question,
one year on from the publication of the White Paper ? has access to
economic, social and cultural rights for international protection
applicants improved? We aim to publish and launch the research in June

POSITION SUMMARY

The Peer Researcher will gather the views of people in the
international protection process through a survey and four focus
groups. Preliminary meetings will take place with the Steering Group
in December **Apply on the website**. The consultations will be
carried out over a period of three months between January and March
**Apply on the website**. The Peer Researcher will report to Nasc?s
Project Lead and will work closely with the Project Steering Group and
the consultant Lead Researcher. The Peer Researcher will work with the
Project Lead, with the input of the Steering Group, on the survey and
focus group design and analysis of the information gathered. The Peer
Researcher will work closely with the Lead Researcher and the Project
Lead on the report write up with a draft report to be completed by end

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have lived experience of living in
direct provision or being in the international protection process. The
successful candidate will be expected to have:

* Knowledge of the international process and an understanding of the
White Paper on Ending Direct Provision.
* Experience of working with data and data protection.
* Experience of facilitating groups.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and
written;
* Basic research, analytical and IT skills are necessary. Prior
experience of carrying out qualitative research will be an advantage.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Peer Researcher will:

* Support the work of the project in engaging with people in the
international protection process;
* Work with the Project Lead and the Steering Group to identify what
information is required;
* Work with the Project Lead to design and plan four focus groups
and delivery of same;
* Collate the feedback from the focus groups;
* Work with the Project Lead to design and plan a survey and
delivery of same;
* Assist in collating the feedback from the survey;
* Work with the Project Lead to analyse and evaluate the information
gathered and draft a report.
